Good-bye Means Java Forever

jason_java forever_01
Java died in my arms last week. Pain hurts and loss is the worst kind so it’s taken me this long just to whisper what I still can’t believe. Alone is a lonely place with a broken heart after all.

My last words to him were thank you and I love you. And I promised him we still had so many more adventures together and I’ll lead with my heart and you’ll know who’s by my side, same as always.

Good-bye means Java Forever,

jason

I’m sorry for your loss Jason. I lost my best friend PJ (black lab) this past June after 13 years. It’s a kind of hurt I haven’t overcome yet and will forever be changed by.

Java will live on through the community and most importantly, you. Again, I’m sorry.

  2. Erinn says:

Jason my deepest sympathy. I know it must be hard at this time, but know he is looking over you now. He passed with his friend by his side. Remember the good!

I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve never felt more broken than when I lost my best bud. It took me a long time, but I got a new pup, and we’re unbelievably close. When his time comes, I’m sure I will be a wreck.

You gave Java a great life and more importantly, love. Prayers coming your way.

  5. Tracy Batman says:

I can’t… Java was super proud to have you as an owner; that dog had one AMAZING life and touched so many. Could you ask for anything more? Love, Batman & Malia

Dogs are unconditional in the love they give, and they become part of your life. I lost my chocolate lab almost 10 years ago, and it still hurts to think about. Java is in a better placee now, having adventure, and hanging out until you join him. For him it will be like no time has passed at all.
Grieve in peace, and know that you have a whole world of GRTs grieving with you.

  8. Brent says:

Cherish the Memories, and those will last a lifetime, he is more than a pet, he is a part of what you and him made…GORUCK. Legends live forever. RIP Java.

  9. Rocco Chappie says:

No words, the pain will be large for the duration. The memories are what we are blessed with. Just know that he chose you, and that matters.

  10. Joe says:

Java played a huge role in my introduction to GORUCK. If it hadn’t been for him barking and licking during the welcome party I very well may have quit. I will hold on to every memory of him and I’m thankful to Jason for being such a great owner/friend to him. He had the best life imaginable for a dog and for that I will forever remember Java.

  11. Matt T says:

I was just reading The Java Effect last night. It really made me stop and reflect upon how much my dog means to me. I cannot imagine life without him, yet I know his time will come and go too quickly.

My dog used to sit next to me while I meditate. Even though he sat quietly, I didn’t realize how palpable his absence would become after he died. Your pain is mine as well. I’m so very sorry, Jason. I have followed Java’s exploits through your blog posts, and it’s clear to me that both of you enriched each other’s lives.

  18. Charles Battles says:

Java, was a wonderful dog. This pup loved the water and the ocean. He was a great companion to Jason and his friends. Java’s spirit will continue be part of the GORUCK family as we grow. All dogs go to heaven. You will be missed Jav.

  29. Jason,

Although I don’t know you or Java personally, It hurts me to hear that he’s gone. We grieve because we love, and being able to give and receive love from a companion is the ultimate thing in life. Please remember the love and life you gave to Java was a blessing for him and yourself. A blessing only those lucky enough to share such experiences in life will ever know. As a recent dog owner my only hope is to give the best life possible for my dog, and share memories and lessons that I know will make me a better person in the end for it. With a heavy heart, I’ll be giving Charlie (my 15 month old golden retriever) an extra big hug tonight.

My deepest condolences. Respect and love for both you and Java.

  30. Jason says:

Knowing that Java got you through some tough times, caring about you when it seemed like no one else did, makes this especially rough. My condolences to you, Jason.

But know that you now have an entire community ready to support you.

  31. John Thompson says:

I feel you man. I put my golden lab down this summer. Made worse because I felt I owed it to him to do it myself. Hardest thing I’ve done. I’m sure they are running somewhere. Bullet and Java RIP.

  32. Jenn Mags says:

I never got the chance to meet you, Java. I
I am brand new to the GORUCK community. But I’ve followed the news and admired pics of Java for awhile now, all the time hoping that someday I’d meet you both. I am so, so sorry. As someone who knows the Java Effect quite well, I can only say that we have to hold on to them and embrace them when they are here because they are forever in our hearts when they are gone. Sounds like he had an amazing life with you and that you appreciated every second and that’s amazing. Again, I’m so sorry.

  33. Jarrett Smith says:

Jason- I remember class 099 in Key West. Java was with us the entire time. Early on you said something to effective “Just follow Java’s lead. He’ll keep you in line.” Great memory of a great friend.

  34. Patrick says:

I’m so sorry to hear this Jason! But it is pretty amazing how many people have a connection with Java. He led a pretty awesome life and you should be proud of that.

  35. Daryl Adams says:

Once an animal like that peers into you and sees you for who you really are and makes a decision that they will stand by you come what may, you are never the same again. I firmly believe that the almighty gave us gifts like that to remind us of the tenuous nature of life and the importance of those characteristics that we hold dear and that that friend personifies. I know it’s little consolation, but please accept our heartfelt and sincere condolences, and sleep well knowing that that loyal friend will be waiting patiently in a better place, tail wagging.

  36. Bill says:

I read once that the roughest thing God does to humans is make dogs have such short lifespans. I know Java got the most into his.

  37. Dutch 024 says:

Few people know how much a dog can mean to you after coming home from the places we do our work in. My heart is broken for you, mate.

  38. Kevin O. says:

Condolences. We lost our “old man” earlier this year after 14 years. We are reminded of him often in many ways. Seeing this pic of Java helps bring that back in a bad//good way. You’ll always have the memory (and the hair).

  43. Dave Westhaver says:

Jason, I am sorry to hear this news and understand the grief of loosing a partner like Java. Our dogs become part of us, from the tail wagging when we get home to quiet moments of unfettered affection. Dogs are part of us and provide us with a connection like no other.
    Best wishes,
    Dave W

  44. Kristine Bacon says:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

  45. Adam&Erica M. says:

Jason, we are very sorry. You and Java gave each other some great life experiences. I never met a dog who lived such an extraordinary life, and you gave everything to Java. Erica and I remarked after the Massanutten Light in June how Java must be the most photographed dog ever–your lens was always waiting to capture his moments–we could see Java “mattered most” to you. Cherish those memories and celebrate the fact that Java truly lived a great life and you are responsible for that. -Adam.

  46. Jason says:

My old boy is getting ready to go after 13 great years so this is hitting close to home.

    Jason,

So sorry for your loss! I never met you or Java but have had many a canine companions, one a black lab. They find a place in your heart and own it forever. The poem below is called the Rainbow Bridge and I apologize if you already have received it. There is no religious intent, just a beautiful composure of words to describe the relation of us and our animal companions.
    RAINBOW BRIDGE
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

    Author unknown…

    Again, sorry for your loss.

  61. Joel says:

I have done mostly what most men do,
    And pushed it out of my mind;
But I can’t forget, if I wanted to,
    Four-Feet trotting behind.

Day after day, the whole day through —
    Wherever my road inclined —
Four-feet said, “I am coming with you!”
    And trotted along behind.

Now I must go by some other round, —
Which I shall never find —
Somewhere that does not carry the sound
    Of Four-Feet trotting behind.
    Rudyard Kipling

    Jason,

I am so very sorry for your loss. What makes the GORUCK brand so amazing is that in the midst of all the beer and bad-assery, there is a real human connection. As the face of this company you took a chance and allowed people to see that side of you. Your relationship with Java reminds us all that although we are strong, it’s okay to lean on someone else once in a while. Be it a pet, team mates, friends…. 71. Sean Squire says:

There is nothing a man can do to prepare himself for this, because it is not a dog they are letting go of but rather a piece of their own soul. Im sorry for your loss brother.

“Dogs lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you’re going to lose a dog, and there’s going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocence, because you can’t support the illusion that a dog can be your lifelong companion. There’s such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware that it comes with an unbearable price. Maybe loving dogs is a way we do penance for all the other illusions we allow ourselves and the mistakes we make because of those illusions.” – Dean Koontz

  72. Stuart says:

So sorry to hear this, Java is such a big part of the Goruck website and I love seeing photo’s of him (he always seemed to be having a good time)

  82. Kevin C says:

Jason, I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. The first time I ever saw Java was flipping through the pages of Foster Huntington’s book – stopping on page 124 and thinking what a great looking dog. Jason, you don’t know me. I am a former 1st group member and a constant lurker on your site. I am always checking up on what you are doing at GORUCK. Sometimes I long to join you when you come to San Diego, but 25 years older and many past injuries still haunting me I can’t play that young man’s game anymore. I have always felt a true connection to GORUCK and especially JAVA. I felt he was part of my family that I could visit on FB or your website. I will still check out what GORUCK is doing from time to time, but it will not be the same without JAVA,the face of GORUCK, on point checking out all the new gear. I wish you the best my friend. Missing JAVA already.

    Jason –

Java was the true embodiment of Good Livin’, and will forever be the official GORUCK mascot in my mind.

It was a sincere honor and privilege to meet Java shortly after our amazing GRL in DC last month. Even though he was a bit under the weather, I could tell what an amazing dog he was. I still have a great picture of the two of you from that day.

Stay strong, you both will be in my thoughts. I’m sure the thoughts of the entire GORUCK family are with you as well. Peace & Love.

Jason – sorry to hear about the loss of Java. I was looking forward to meeting him one of these times that I got back to the States. Thoughts and prayers out to you and Java. -Steve B

  97. Keith says:

    Jason,

Sorry to hear of Java’s passing. I always enjoyed his photos. He was a beautiful Lab. It’s never easy losing a four legged family member. My “Penny” passed unexpectedly three weeks ago today and I still find myself breaking down emotionally. Unconditional love from a family dog is priceless.

    Keith

  98. Tim says:

The comment thread is a testament to the impact of Java and GORUCK. Java will live forever through this community and has set a precedent for the years to come.

    My condolences.

  99. Kirk says:

I know the kind of pain and grieve that you are facing. On October 9th, 2013 we lost our beloved yellow lab. He was 14 years, 10 months old and we were truly blessed to have shared our lives with him for this length of time. I have lost close family members but I have never felt this level of grieve before. It helps to remember all the great times we shared. I am sorry for your loss of your best friend.

  100. Dave says:

Hey Jason. My family and I were so sorry to hear about Java. My son has the Java is my Homeboy T-shirt and it’s one of his favorites. Our black lab, Langley just turned 8 and is getting the white fur around her muzzle. She’s as much a part of the family as any of us and I dread the day its time for her to move on.

  101. AB says:

    Wow…

    RIP Java.

Java is the soul of Goruck, therefore he will live on as long as Goruck exists and we all know dog is just god backwards.

  102. Luke Duran says:

I first want you to know that my deepest condolences for what I Know is an indescribebly hard loss. I want you to know that i am a soldier working toward being an operator. I also have a Lab named delta who is close to my heart. When I found your site and saw you and Java it was just before I got Delta. keeping up with you guys over the internet had inspired me to train hard, keep posetive about my training, and Love my dog. I now understand the bond that you have with him and I ressonate your loss. Thank you and Java for being an inspiration to me and my dog.

  103. mikeB says:

I’m so sorry. But rejoice in that you gave Java a great life. And you took my advice way back and spoiled Java every day!

  104. Bob K says:

I know the pain and sorry for your loss. I met you and Java at the Nasty. He was laying down in the PX. He seemed in a lot of pain. He was a great dog (I have a chocolate lab, so I speak from experience they are great dogs). Somehow the great dogs touch our lives in ways we didn’t know possible.

  105. John Duncan says:

Jason, even though I never met Java and do not know you personally, I do know the love one can share with his dog. I’ve been where you are, and it hurts like hell. The pictures you posted tell the story of your pain, which brings me to moments in time where I have experienced the same. My heart goes out to you; may Java’s spirit always be with you.

  106. Hautacam says:

So sorry for your loss. Our ol’ golden retriever, Harrison, took point on this mission awhile back. He’ll walk Java in to the Other Side.

Wishing you the best in a hard time, and cracking a cold one for you & Java right now.

  107. Pete L. says:

I feel really shitty for you, Jason. Even when they’re being bad, dogs are friggin great. I started crying as soon as I read this. I lost my guy a over a year ago and am still raw from it. Really sorry for your loss.

  108. Isabella says:

Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that. I only read your blog to follow Java’s adventures. I can’t believe it. Sad face! However he seemed happy until the end, so you’re a very loving fur daddy.
    *hugs*

  109. David says:

God Bless. We are crying with you brother. Clearly, Java was a big part of your life, Go Ruck and the Go Ruck Community. I can’t say I actually met Java. Saw him Looking Cool at Nasty. In all the posts, photos and in person he was one Happy Looking Dog. In all the photos I have seen with the two of you together his love is clear. You did right by him. I am sure he will be with you always, looking down on you and all that the two of you created. How could he not be proud. You are in our thoughts.

  110. Jessica says:

What an amazing bond you two had, and what an amazing friend/owner/master you are to give Java the most dignified departure possible. It hurts to lose a family member, a friend, a confidant, a partner in crime. He’s always going to be there with you… you will see him somewhere in everything you do. God speed, Java, and my most sincere condolences. -Jess

  111. Carl says:

Jason, I just became part of the community after completing a GRT in Salt Lake City on my 52nd bday. We love our dog Kingston who is the Lock-n-Load Java mascot and there have been few times in my life I have not had a dog as a family member, so I feel your pain brother. Hang tough. One of the things that attracted me to GORUCK was the values and esprit de corps I saw in your organization. Keep the heart in this organization and you will continue to thrive and grow brother. Java would like that.

  112. Renee says:

So sorry for your loss Jason. I have no words and I feel your pain. Java joined an Akita named Vega on his journey. I feel like I know you and Java from reading your posts. His memory will live on in all the people who read about him and recognized the love and bond you shared.

  113. Deltatango says:

    Jason,

I am so sorry to hear that Java has moved on. Like everyone else has said, remember the great times he has brought you! I never got to meet him but by reading your posts and seeing his pics on GORUCK I have felt that I have known him forever. My heart goes out to you!! Godspeed Java!!

  114. Mark Donohoo says:

I have two labs myself…Take the great memories & cherish them! Mans best friend brings the best times of our lives. Sorry for your loss! Till you two meet again 🙂 GORUCK JAVA!

  115. LisaR. says:

Sorry to hear about the passing of your loved one. Dogs are our part of the family. Much blessings to you on your future adventures. Java will be in your heart every step of the way.

  116. steveb says:

I’m sorry Jason, losing a pal sucks. Its especially crappy when its a pal that showed nothing but love and devotion throughout his life.

I’ll think of java when i hoist my GR1

  117. kevin says:

I am so sorry to hear of Java’s passing, I know he is in a place where he has friends and will be waiting for you to go on may more adventures.

  118. Brian M says:

Jason, while I haven’t had the privilege of meeting you, as a longtime GORUCK fan, I felt an instant connection to the brand in large part b/c of Java’s prominence as a GORUCK ambassador. In addition to making kick ass gear and being a champion of American manufacturing, your willingness to open up that aspect of your private life has humanized GORUCK in way that is hard to put into words. Quite simply, it feels like a Brand of the people…like we’re all a part of it. As someone who grew up with retrievers currently has 2 Rhodesian Ridgebacks, I know how hard losing a family member is. You have my sincerest condolences, and I know Java will always be right there with you.

  119. Barry Cullen says:

My Heart goes out to you Jason So Sorry for your lost, Java is obviously a Big part of Goruck & will always Be, he has touched mine & wife’s Hearts even though we just got to meet him though a computer monitor screen we got a feeling of his Soul! He Loves & will continue to Love you through this Great Universe.

  120. Nicholas says:

I couldnt imagine losing my dogs. They are the most consistent daily presence in my life and I go about my day normally with them around me as if they are human family members. Losing one of them would be like losing a brother, sister, son or daughter. Just devastating. Sorry for your loss my freind.

  121. DC says:

So sorry to hear this. I really enjoyed meeting Java. There are just no words…I stand ready to lift a glass and celebrate His life.

  122. Dino Corvino says:

    Dear Jason,

I just said good bye to my dog Hershey. She had cancer, and all of that. It was horrible. But, I know that my dog lived every moment fully, and did not miss out on a minute of love and adventure.

Neither did yours, and from what I can tell, neither do you.

I am sorry for your loss.

  123. Ben says:

Jason, I am very sorry for your loss. As a fan of your gear, I do not know you or Java personally, but know that it is devastatingly painful when your best friend is taken from you. Java will live on in your heart and no one can take the memories from you. Rest easy, Java.

  124. Scott says:

    Jason,
I read your post a couple of weeks ago and was emotional based on your connection with Java. Although I have never attempted a Goruck event, I follow closely.

Yesterday, I had to put my dog, Ozzy, to sleep. I did not think it would be as hard as it was. Stupid, me.

Sorry for your loss. I had Ozzy for 13 years. He was my first “kid” and was a great companion.

These comments and your post(s) help.

Godspeed – Java & Ozzy – Both you and I know who we have waiting for us and how awesome that will be.

  125. Jonathan McMenamin-Balano says:

Opened up your site to find this. Jason, sorry for your loss and my hope is that you carry the wonderful memories longer than that stabbing pain of losing Java. The picture you posted is a testament to what this loss means to you the strength that we all know you and go-ruck are built on. Be safe.

  126. Keith Grimm says:

Holy crap I just saw this today. I’m so sorry for your loss of Java. Pets become such a huge part of our lives without us even realizing it. I lost my two dogs last summer within two weeks of each other and the pain is still very real. Although I’ve never met you or had the pleasure of meeting Java, I know he had a wonderful life. Fair winds and following seas Java.

  127. Aidan says:

I can relate to this as I had to let my pal go last Monday. He was my main man and I will miss him dearly.

I find the loss of a pet harder than snything to get over. You clearly loved your dog and I’m sure he knew it very well.

  128. Aidan says:

I can relate to this as I had to let my pal go last Monday. He was my main man and I will miss him dearly.

I find the loss of a pet harder than anything to get over. You clearly loved your dog and I’m sure he knew it very well.

  129. Arlo says:

Hey Jason, I’m really sorry about your loss…I remember reading about how GoRuck was started, and how Java was by your side the whole time. I wish I could’ve met Java, he is such a wonderful spirit. May Java live on forever at peace…

  130. Eric says:

I remember when I lost my dog I was embarresed to tell people how deeply it hurt. I was blessed with one of the good ones and it sounds like you were too. We are the lucky ones.

  131. Alvaro Serrano says:

So sorry for your loss, Jason.

I got to meet Java once, during the kick-off party for the 9/11 10-year anniversary challenge in NYC. What an amazing friend he was.

    Java Forever.

  132. Eric David says:

Sorry for your loss brother. Although my pup passed away over a decade ago it still pains me. She lived a very full life, over 20 years. She was my best friend as a child and the day we had to put her down was painful. Java will be welcomed into Doggy Paradise..

  133. Phil says:

I’m so sorry for your loss Jason.

I once heard lion and sheep live peacefully with each others in heaven, I think Java is living in a peaceful place right now.

  134. Oh my goodness, I’m so very sorry for the loss of your dear friend. I can express a feeling of understanding for I lost my Ruger a few years ago. He left behind a wonderful “sister” Abbey and I couldn’t imagine my life without her after I lost him. Our family has grown to have 4 more “siblings” and I embrace the moments of puppy love and tail wags. May Java and Ruger do what Labs do best and swim till their heart content in the after life. While they are waiting for us to come home.

  135. Branson says:

I saw this just now while sitting in my Apartment in Ghana, West Africa far from the dogs I love back home. Everyday I go to work carrying school supplies and a laptop in my GoRuck. When I put on the bag I think of the photos that I’ve seen of Java and the spirit of the company that he helped build, the lives that he helped change. This is inspiration. There are many children here who have been touched by Java without even knowing it. He will truly live forever through us. Thank you and holding you in the light.

  136. Tam says:

I’m so sorry for your loss. Java was an amazing dog and will be missed by all that he touched (even if only through photos).

Hugs to you and the rest of the GORUCK family.

  137. june p says:

    Oh Jason,

Just seeing this now. So sorry to hear this news about Java. It does get easier, but it’s like learning to dance with a limp. My heart hurts for you.
    Be well.

  138. Dario says:

    Jason,
You have just taken me out. I am sorry to read of your loss and this serves to send you my deepest sympathy and support. Your picture has brought up the deep and sorrowful feelings that I have and which I daily force to hide for my little buddy which I lost months ago. My wife had yet to see me in such a state but I was in bits emotionally for a good month. Best of recoveries my friend. You will meet again in your dreams, I guarantee you this. cheers, Dario

  139. blake says:

Jason – I can’t tell you how sorry I am to hear about your loss. Dogs are so much better than people, they give freely asking nothing in return and they make us better if we just let them. RIP Java…

  140. Jason says:

    Jason,
I’m really sorry to hear about your loss. Obviously we all know how it feels to lose an important family member. But I’m sure nobody knows just how you feel. We all carry a part of him with us.
    JAVA FOREVER.

  141. Ryan says:

I was so lucky to have met Java. Our dogs are more than a member of our family, they are like our children, confidants, best friends, and more all rolled into one. You and Java made something amazing together, and he will always be a legend. “Heroes get remembered, but legends never die.”

  142. MikeB says:

We all go into dog ownership knowing the reality of their life span. Its a cruel trick of nature that such loyal, unselfish, constant, and valued partners get the short shrift of life with us. Java being such a part of Goruck is, I’m sure a constant and painful reminder… But life goes on and the great times with java are immortalized in these pages. A lot of us have gone through the same sadness at the loss of a valued partner…In time a new pal,(not replacement) could carry on the same tradition as Java. Still so sorry for your loss.

  143. So sorry to hear the news. I’m sure the life he had with you Jason, and the entire GORUCK community, was the best a dog could ever have or imagine. I had the privilege of meeting Java at Nasty and showing him a little love when he was feeling a down. Thoughts and prayers your way man – 🙁

  144. Chad Boan says:

Jason, my deepest condolences on the loss of Java. I actually lost our dog the day you posted this news. Our pets are like family. We keep comfort in the fact that there is a special place in Heaven for our pets. I hope to meet at some point as I am training to do a Challenge and have just begun to follow the GoRuck life. I plan to come by the Neptune Beach store in June when we are down in the area on vacation. Ruck on brother!

  145. Michael Hodges says:

Jason, I hope things are going better for you. I also held my 12 year old weimaraner as she passed. It has been 5 years since I lost Pico. I have great memories and still miss her dearly. I never thought I would have such a great dog again but now I have two weimaraners from the same breeder. They bring me new memories and great joy but they will never replace the relationship I had with Pico. I will be just as crushed when I lose them someday. It hurts to lose the ones we care about but I look forward to the reunion in Heaven with all my pups someday. Thanks for sharing such a painful moment with us. I have never met you but I have no doubt I would like you immediately. Anyone who cares about their dog as you obviously did is my kind of people.

  146. Lou T says:

Jason, I hope the painful tears have turned into happy tears by now. I know mine have after loosing 4 Goldens, each one in my arms. I thought it would get easier each time and that I could never love like the last, but that’s not the case. They leave us with a very special gift like none other. There is comfort in knowing the last thing they hear or feel is your kind gentle touch and loving voice. I live for the hope that whatever my death consists of, that when it’s my turn, I can go with the memory of my dogs and a smile on my face.. I pray for that..
